Maize Minutia (updated)

Talk about pots and kettles...6/24
UPDATE: Isn’t it funny how things work their way along sometimes?

Here’s a few things that you might not know:

  1. Rice is not the #1 food crop in the world; that would be corn.  Rice is second and wheat comes in third.
  2. The planet produced 817,000,000 tonnes of corn in 2009.
  3. Maize (aka corn) is Africa’s most important staple food.
  4. North America is the world’s largest producer of corn, producing about half the worldwide yield.
  5. 40% of North America’s corn production gets made into biofuel to satisfy the yuppie need for a masturbatory sense of enviro-self-satisfaction.
  6. The price of corn has more than doubled in the last year.

But hey, that’s gotta be just a coincidence, right?  The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization doesn’t think so(more…)

In Case You Missed It

We’re in the middle of an election and I haven’t been posting anywhere near enough. I’m a Very Bad Bloggerâ„¢.

It’s not that I haven’t wanted to, it’s just that I’ve been running hither and yon like some decapitated barnyard poultry and well… things just haven’t been making room for anything. So, in the hopes of at least somewhat making things up to you a little bit, here’s a recap of what’s been going on.

For those of you who might have missed the leaders’ debate last night, here’s the summary for you:

And, just in case you’ve somehow managed to miss the whole damned campaign so far, here’s what it boils down to so far:

Here’s hoping that this has been helpful for you.

I’ve Always Liked…

The MSM… cartoonists. Really, I do. Not just because they can make me have a good chuckle from time to time, but also because it can be downright eerie sometimes how they can give you a peek behind the curtain of what’s on the collective mind.

They can be complimentary or insulting (sometimes both simultaneously), insightful or oblivious, highbrow or crude. They can be impartial observations or blatantly partisan hackery. Yes some, like the much-missed team of Cox and Forkum that we lost in January of this year, are better than others. But one thing that all the good ones manage to do, whether you like it or not, is to get you to think. That’s been on my mind lately.

Soooooooo… with that in mind (because, God knows, we could all use a little light something before the Election Anvilâ„¢ clobbers us all like Wile E. Coyote), let’s have a quick look at what the little scamps have been up to (click to bigulate, of course)… (more…)

Well, What Do You Know?

This is actually by a cartoonist named Igor Kodenko, from the Ukraine.  To be honest with you, I had NO idea that they knew anything at all about our HRCs over there.  Go figure…
