If you ever needed any proof that the HypoGrits and assorted other Leftbots have shoved this country through the looking glass, you got plenty of it lately. While the warm, fuzzy, colon-myopic “progressives” purr on and on about how wonderful our “justice” system is (inexhaustibly echoed by their fellow travelers in the MSM, such as the Ministry Of What You Should Think), the emperor’s dick is still swing in the wind. Two recent cases do more to make this argument than I ever could…

First, there is the tragic death of yet another innocent young girl in the Arsehole Of The Universeâ„¢. The senseless killing of Stefanie Rengel at the hands of some murdering little sonofabitch whose name we aren’t allowed to know, because the little bastard was FIVE DAYS shy of his eighteenth birthday, has brought about yet another chorus of “something must be done” from the sheeple in the Big Smoke.

Excuse me all to hell for being the cynical asshole here, but I’ve heard all this shit before. I heard it when Jordan Manners died. I heard it when Jane Creba died. I heard it when [fill in the blank] died. Every time a kid gets killed, the City That Never Thinks® farts its indignation for a few days and then goes back to sleep. They moan on that “something should be done,” howl about how screwed up the system is, and demand that changes need to be made. Then they go back to sleep and vote for the same pricks that created the problem in the first place. Why the hell should this time be any different? Do any of us even bothering hoping that things will change this time, when they never did before? I’m not the only one asking this…

You can add the name Stefanie Rengel to the already enormous list of those stolen from us.

And what the heck are we going to do about it? Any outrage out there? Anybody planning a mass protest for tougher justice at Parliament Hill?

If we do nothing as usual, the next name to be added is out there right now, dreaming about his or her bright future.

Hopefully, it’s not your kid — but he or she will be somebody’s. In my 17 years as a reporter at this newspaper, there have been more than 1,000 homicides in Toronto, so I am pretty sure there will be more. Needless to say little has been learned — and even less done.

Well, maybe. Maybe, just maybe, this time just might be different…

The stabbing death of a 14-year-old girl in Toronto this week, and the subsequent murder charges against two teenage acquaintances, opens a year in which Canada’s youth justice law will come under intense legal and political scrutiny.

Parliament is expected to vote in 2008 on legislation to radically toughen the Youth Criminal Justice Act by increasing sentences for serious youth crimes and making it easier for judges to keep young people locked up before their trials if they are considered a risk to public safety.

Justice Minister Rob Nicholson has also promised this year a sweeping review of the entire YCJA, a controversial law long criticized for being too soft on teenagers who commit violent or repeat offences.

And the Supreme Court of Canada is expected to announce a decision on whether two clauses of the YCJA violate the Constitution. The clauses would put the onus on violent young offenders to prove why they shouldn’t be sentenced as adults, or to have their names published.

If the country’s highest court upholds those clauses, the Conservative government will likely be emboldened to press forward with an election promise to impose automatic adult jail terms on teenagers, 14 and older, convicted of serious crimes.

At least it would be a start. Now all we have to do is toughen up the treatment of the full-grown scumbags. Not that it will make much difference to the worthless sacks of shit that killed Stefanie, but at least it would be something.

Oh, but wait… all those partisan hack judges that the Grits stacked the courts with are still around to bugger up the works. Screw what the public wants or what’s good for the country, it’s the unelected judges that make the rules, right…?

But if the court strikes down the adult sentencing clauses, as many legal scholars expect it will, there could be a showdown between the court and the government on the subject of youth crime – a tricky political issue in what may become an election year.

“As we wait for the Supreme Court’s ruling on the case, Canada’s judiciary seems set on a collision course with the legislative branch of government,” says Rishi Hargovan, writing recently on The Court.ca, an online Supreme Court discussion forum hosted by Osgoode Hall Law School.

In 2003, when prosecutors asked for an adult sentence for a 17-year-old Hamilton youth convicted of manslaughter, the lower courts said no. That case is currently before the Supreme Court.

The Ontario Court of Appeal, bolstered by a separate ruling by the Quebec Court of Appeal, said the law violated the Charter of Rights. It said the onus should be on the Crown to show evidence why an adult sentence is necessary, rather on the youth to prove otherwise.

The Ontario and Quebec courts also said the Constitution guarantees young offenders a separate system of youth justice, with its reduced set of penalties and its emphasis on rehabilitation.

And just where the FUCK does the Constitution say THAT???? Oh, wait… that must be one of those things that some shithead judge someplace “read into” the Constitution.

We’ll just have to wait and see (yet AGAIN) if anything gets done. I’m not holding my breath. But if you think that our “justice” is only busy looking out for the garbage in over-liberal Ontario, think again. Things are just as FUBAR out west…

It’s now getting reported that a guy from Langdon, Alberta might himself getting hauled before the Kangaroo Kourt for having the gall to defend himself and his girlfriend from a pair of masked assholes that burst into his bedroom in the middle of the night.

Why the hell can I never be making this stuff up? Just once, that’s all I’m asking for…

“It is a homicide; (the intruder) didn’t die accidentally. Whether or not it’s murder isn’t clear.”

Gang and drug ties have been ruled out as motives in the case, said Neely, and no one involved is a “well-known, hardened criminal,” she said.

Okay, lemme see if I’ve got all this happy bullshit straight in my wee, tiny, disadvantaged, non-leftbotuniversityeducated melon or not…

• No drug ties? Check.
• No gang ties? Check.
• Nobody (especially the homeowner) a “well-known, hardened criminal?” Check.
• Guy wakes up in the middle of the night to find a pair of masked shitbags in his bedroom with him and his sleeping girlfriend and does what any normal, non-testosterone-challenged human male would do? Check.

And still, he might be the one with his ass in the box?

“The two assailants entered the bedroom where the victims had been sleeping and a struggle ensued in the bedroom and that’s where (the body of) one assailant was discovered,” said Strathmore RCMP Cpl. Patty Neely.

The male occupant of the house was also injured and is listed in stable condition. Police say they are now trying to determine whether or not to lay murder charges against the him.

“Obviously, we know how he became deceased. Whether or not it’s a homicide or murder investigation or simply (a case of) protecting yourself will be determined,” said Neely.

Under the law, people have the right to protect themselves and their property within certain limits. The criminal code states that the victim of an unprovoked attack is justified in repelling force by force if it is “not intended to cause death or grievous bodily harm” and is no more than necessary for self defence.

WTF is that bullshit?? I don’t know if things have changed or not but there’s a principle that I learned back in the stone age when I was going to school. It went something like this: If a man attacks you with his hands, you can defend yourself with a stick. If he attacks you with a stick, you can defend yourself with a knife. If he attacks you with a knife, a gun isn’t an unreasonable means of defending yourself.

Apparently, if you wake up in the middle of the night and find a prair of masked malcontents standing over you, you’re expected to call a timeout so you can take the time to Monday morning quarterback yourself for an hour or two.

Yeah, right. Not this kid.

On the bright side, though: not everybody’s a friggin’ idiot in this country. While the Hug-A-Thug Brigade® pisses and moans about all the mean, nasty evil things that decent folks do to the poor, disadvantaged, misunderstood shitbags in our midst, Bob and Betty Lunchbox don’t seem to give a damn what those buggers are wailing about (tip o’ the hat to JR for the poll and pic). Click on the pic and you’ll see that a whopping 97% of people couldn’t give a rat’s ass about Leftbotâ„¢ bullshit, scumbag “rights,” or even the law, when it comes to keeping their loved ones safe. Screw the consequences, it’s one hell of a lot better to be judged by twelve than it is to be carried by six.

For the record: I agree. Break into my house and pose a danger to my woman or kids, and you’re gonna find yourself on the wrong end of a 12-gauge. You will shut your God damned mouth and do exactly as I say, and do it damned quick, or you’ll die on my floor. That’s my God-given right, whether the law says so or not.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a law-abiding kind of guy. I believe in the law and I respect the men and women who put their asses on the line to uphold it each and every day. But if you pose a threat to the ones I love… well, then, the rulebook goes out the window. Along with a few chunks of your grey matter.

Hey there. Sorry for not being around much lately but as some of you might have noticed, I haven’t exactly had a lot of time for ranting and raving lately. While I never thought of it at first, blogging actually takes quite a bit of thought and getting up a good head of steam for a real rant takes some time (a few barleypops helps, too). But lately, what with moving, looking for a new job, and all the usual summertime activities, there just haven’t been enough hours in the day.

Some things, however, don’t take much work. They really do speak for themselves. Things like this little nugget from the files of the Ministry Of WTF (good gawd, what a way to go 😯 …).

I know it’s got nothing to do with any damned thing, but it’s just too damned weird not to mention (plus it took no time at all to post):

BRISBANE, Australia — An Australian woman was killed by a pet camel given to her as a 60th birthday present after the animal apparently tried to have sex, police said Sunday.

The woman, whose name was not released, was killed Saturday at her family’s sheep and cattle ranch near Mitchell, 600 kilometres west of the Queensland state capital Brisbane, state police Detective Senior Constable Craig Gregory said.

The 10-month-old male camel — weighing about 150 kilograms — knocked the woman to the ground, lay on top of her, then exhibited what police suspect was mating behaviour, Gregory said.

“I’d say it’s probably been playing, or it may be even a sexual sort of thing,” Gregory said, adding the camel almost suffocated the family’s pet goat by straddling it on several occasions.

Camel expert Chris Hill said he had no doubt the camel’s behaviour was sexual.

Hill, who has offered camel rides to tourists for 20 years, said young camels are not aggressive, but can be dangerous if treated as pets without discipline.

The fate of the camel was not known.

The woman was given the camel in March as a birthday present from her husband and daughter. “She had a love of exotic pets,” Gregory said.

I’ve seen a lot of odd stuff in my life but this not only takes the cake, it quite frankly creeps the hell out of me. Never thought I’d see the army called out for something like this; not in this country, at least. The Freeps and the TO Red Star seem to be the only ones that have picked this up so far but look to hear more of it as word gets around.

It seems that a couple of kids were with their mom walking the family pooch on Friday along a creek that crosses Inadale Drive between Strathroy and Mt. Brydges (not sure about the name of it yet but the locals seem to just call it “crayfish creek”) and they stumbled on… two antitank mines!

That’s right. Two God damned landmines — like the one in the photo on the right, taken at the scene — were found in the creek right by a culvert that a buttload of people drive over every day.

We’ll start off with what the Freeps had to say about it today:

The potential for devastation was evident yesterday as a military team detonated the mines from a safe distance.

The force of the blast ripped bark and limbs from a tree and sprayed water so high it could be seen by observers a kilometre away.

“I could feel the percussive force,” Overdulve said, “It was 100 times louder than any fireworks you ever heard.”

Seven centimetres thick and 25 centimetres in diameter, the mines appear to be the kind used to disable tanks.

“We can’t definitively prove that, but that is the direction we are leaning,” Overdulve said.

After the detonation, the explosives experts found debris “consistent with timers,” he said.

The first mine was found Friday afternoon by nearby resident Lynn Denning, who walked to the creek with her two teenage daughters so that their yellow lab, Jesse, could enjoy the cold water.

“It’s upsetting,” she said.

While Inadale is a two-lane country road, many residents cross the culvert to commute to London, Denning said.

“There’s quite a lot of traffic during the week,” said Denning, who commutes to work at London Health Sciences Centre.

The family called Strathroy-Caradoc police, who sought help from the OPP, who called in the explosive ordinance disposal team from CFB Base Borden.

The explosives team left its base 100 kilometres north of Toronto at 6:20 a.m. yesterday.

“We responded quickly — we take this matter quite seriously,” said Capt. Cheryl Swarbrick, a base spokesperson.

Their presence was soon felt and heard on a normally quiet, tree-lined road.

“I’ve seen hand grenades and ammunition, but I never encountered anything like this,” Overdulve said.

Until a year ago, Overdulve lived near the creek, taking his three kids there to fish so often, they called it “crayfish creek.”

“This area is typically occupied by children, who come here to play,” he said.

The Red Star, of course, took their usual “nothing to see here, folks, move along” stance. You know; the same one they take every time something happens that has the potential to suggest that those on the Right side of the political spectrum just might be right about the idea of national security…

“It would be very premature to say how they might have got there,” Overdulve said. Around 1 p.m. after inspection, the military detonated what they describe as possible anti-tank devices – a type of land mine capable of damaging or destroying tanks or other armoured vehicles.

Investigators are unsure whether the suspected land mines were modern or from a bygone military era. “It’s possible that the ordnance is quite old,” Overdulve said. All the debris was collected and sent for analysis, with results expected within the next two weeks.

Bygone military era, my lilly-white ass. Dawdling around and leaving antitank mines all over southwestern Ontario has never been a part of the Canadian Armed Forces’ training and exercises regimen. 🙄

Meanwhile, over at Canada Free Press, Judi McLeod seems to be the only one asking the right questions, out loud:

The big question about two live landmines found in a countryside culvert running under Inadale Drive between Strathroy and Mt. Brydges, Ontario yesterday is who put them there?

Appearing to be attached to timers, the landmines were likely of the type used to blow up tanks, according to Strathroy-Caradoc police.

The Strathroy and Mt. Bridges communities are 20 kilometres west of London, Ont. and 30 kilometres from the former Military Camp Ipperwash (also Camp Ipperwash, a former Canadian Armed Forces training facility, now held by Stoney Point First Nation natives.

The only other military base in the area was CFB Clinton, about 40 kilometres away [actually, Judi, it’s more like 100 kliks away -Dennis], shut down some 36 years ago, and CFB London, about 20 kilometres away and downsized some 15 years ago

Let’s face it, boys and girls, the friggin’ Mine Fairy didn’t leave those things there. And there are two things that suggest to me that they haven’t been there for very damned long:

1. They were submerged in water, but not for so long that they couldn’t still go off. And as one Korean War vet told me once, in the winter time the pressure from expanding ground frost (or in this case, solid ice) will often set mines off.
2. The size of them. Earlier AV/AT mines were damned big things. They had to be, simply because the kind of compact, high-efficiency explosives that we can find today hadn’t been developed yet. Most accounts put these things found in the creek as being discs about 20cm across and about 6cm thick. That’s small for an AV/AT device.

No matter how hard I try, I can’t get that little voice in the back of my head to shut the hell up. You know the voice I’m talking about; you might have one yourself. The one that keeps saying, “They said we were a target. Even before we sent troops to Afghanistan, they came right out and said we were on their hit list. And everybody knows that they always try to do a dry run first…”

Is that nagging little voice wrong? Am I just being paranoid? I sure as hell hope so.

After all this time, I figure it’s about damned time that I blabbed about something other than a murdering sack of maggot shit that has had everybody worried lately. So here goes…

HOLY [BLEEP]ING [BLEEP]!!! I’ve heard of “dragon skin” before. I even had a chance to get an up-close look at how it performed against a full burst from and AK47 and I was impressed as hell. But I NEVER thought it could pull this off. This is just too damned surreal.

From the vid, the grenade looks like a standard frag (an M67 or some such) but I can’t really see well enough to be sure. Either way, this is un-Goddamned-believable! Some of you might have seen this before, but I just tripped over it and I’m still shaking my head. Part of me is skeptical, but…

Okay, I know that London’s getting to be more and more like the ArseholeOf The Universeâ„¢ as the days and months go on but this is just a little too creepy, even by my admittedly somewhat cynical standards.

It seems like the whole damned tactical squad got called out about 11 o’clock last night and weren’t in the mood to take any shit.  I haven’t been able to get any real details on just what the hell happened yet, but judging by what the Freeps had to say this morning, those boys were definitely in full move-your-ass-we’re-not-screwing-around-here mode.

If anybody has any details, I’d be interested…

A flurry of police, including heavily armed tactical officers, swooped down on a London highrise late last night, catching some residents by surprise.

Residents said police arrived just before 11 p.m. and sealed off the 14th floor of one of the twin CityPlace towers, at 405 Waterloo St., near Dundas, and ordered no one be allowed up to that floor.

One resident said police were seen racing to the nearby Holiday Inn Express, and from there were visible in a stairwell window staring over at the highrise.

It wasn’t immediately clear what had triggered the heavy police response, and no one was available to comment.

A woman staying at the Holiday Inn said she went up the stairwell to see what was happening and came across two officers on the 10th-floor landing, wearing what she described as “big goggles.”

“I walked in and said, ‘Is everything OK? And they said, ‘Go downstairs,’ ” said hotel guest Ashley Morrison.

An officer was seen out on one of the 14th-floor balconies at the apartment building.

Some of you might find this post a little befuddling, especially in light of my opinions on the Farmer Bob Varmint Gun Registryâ„¢ and other idiocies that the anti-gun wackos puke up from time to time. The fact of the matter is that, contrary to what some of my friends and coworkers might tell you, I actually do believe in having some gun control under the law.

No, I haven’t changed my mind. Registration is still useless but licensing makes sense. Registration only kicks in after you have a gun. It’s a licensing that keeps guns out of the hands of the wrong people in the first place, or at least makes it harder for them to get one.

A lot of states in the US have the right idea: if you have a felony conviction, you can’t get a gun. Waiting times make sense, too. Seriously now, just what the hell can be going on in your day that you need a gun right now?? Smells fishy to me.

But just having a licensing regimen isn’t enough; it has to be done right. Which makes the story on the front page of today’s Freeps all that much more disturbing:

ST. THOMAS — Factory worker Nelson Merritt has struggled for years with mental health problems and drug dependency.

He has an anxiety and bi-polar disorder. He’s been depressed and had suicidal thoughts.

And when he emptied the clip of his Glock 9 mm handgun into Bobby Thorpe Jr., shooting him 10 times, Merritt was the licensed owner of three handguns, two rifles and two shotguns.

I’m going to resist the temptation to go on a complete rant about how this is yet another murder that the Long Gun Registry failed to do anything about. The real question here is: how the hell did someone with a long history of drug abuse and mental illness get a PAL for not one but THREE, COUNT ‘EM: THREE RESTRICTED WEAPONS!?!? 😯 If that doesn’t redline your WTF-o-meter, nothing will.

I’ve said it before and, you guessed it, I’m saying it again: the problem isn’t guns, the problem is PEOPLE. You want to curb gun crime? First, you have a licensing system that is based on common sense (if you have trouble figuring out what that is, just go to your local sportsman’s or hunters’ & anglers’ association and ask around) instead of moonbattery. Second you need to really punish gun crime. As in: use a gun, do ten years BEHIND BARS and make it REAL TIME. That means:

• No TV
• No radio
• No gym
• No yard
• No Club Fed
• No smokes
• No methodone or other such bullshit
• And no Goddamn trailer where your ol’ lady can come in and grease your pole on the weekends.

You don’t stop gun crime by hassling law-abiding people. You do it by demanding responsible access and by going after the troublemakers — with a damned big stick.
